Pond Farm Studio Pottery VesselDescription and Item InformationUp for sale is this vintage Pond Farm studio art pottery pitcher or jug. Please excuse the glare in the photos. This piece is approximately 4 inches tall; it is about 6 1/2 inches long and 4 5/8 inches wide. Unpacked, it weighs 13.1 ounces. The glaze is in shades of grayish-white and brown. This would be an uncommon addition to a collection of studio ceramics.IdentificationThis vintage pot is incised beneath, "Pond Farm," and it has the incised jug cipher. It is attributed to Marguerite Wildenhain, founder of Pond Farm. Wildenhain is an important, well-known, listed artist. She is listed on AskART and on Vasefinder, and her works have been exhibited by many museums. Per the Vasefinder Museum and the Robert V. Fullerton Museum, Marguerite Wildenhain (1896-1985) was born in Lyon, France. Starting in 1914, she studied sculpture at the School of Applied Arts in Berlin. In 1919, she commenced studies at the Bauhaus in Weimar, where she studied with Max Krehan and Gerhard Marcks. Wildenhain taught at the Municipal School for Arts and Crafts in Halle-Saale, where she was head of the ceramics program. She relocated to Putten, Holland during the 1930s, where she had a studio with her husband. She moved to the United States in 1940, settling in northern California. Wildenhain taught read more
