This is a stunning vintage circa 1940's Scottish Iona marble silver Celtic design brooch.I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found. The stone is a superb translucent green and white marble from the Isle of Iona on the west coast of Scotland. The marble used to be mined on the Island, but the mine closed in the 1950's and the marble is highly sought after, and collectable. The brooch has no hallmarks ( does have a sterling stamp ) which is fairly normal for brooches of this period, but has been fully tested and is silver. The length is 3.2 cm and the pin and rollover clasp are in good working condition and original.
