Vintage Singer Model 99K Sewing Machine - With Case Description Here for your consideration, we have a very beautiful, perfectly running, 1954 Singer Model 99K – Serial #EJ489007, which was built in the Kilbowie factory located in Clydebank, Scotland. The appearance and performance of this machine is truly exceptional. The Singer 99K machine (the K in the model name stands for “Kilbowie”) is a ¾ size head. This is the smaller portable version of its big sister - the Singer Model 66. The bed size of the 99K is just 12 inches long x 6.5 inches wide, which is similar to the Singer Model 221 Featherweight (15 inches x 7 inches) but weighs about 11 pounds more than the Model 221. Due to its smaller size, the Model 99K won’t fit in a standard size cabinet or case. This does need to be mounted in a cabinet or base in order to work correctly. The original case is included with this machine, which also contains the proper base. (see pictures below) The Kilbowie factory opened in 1884 and was the largest sewing machine factory in the world at its time, encompassing nearly 1 million square feet of floor space. The factory closed in 1980. This model also has the Back Tack feature. This machine is very clean and in very nice condition for its age - no damage or problems of any kind. You can see in the pictures what fine condition the paint and decals are - hard to do it justice with the camera due to the very shiny surface that produces lots of reflections. This machine has recently been professionally serviced - cleaned, oiled and adjusted. It runs very smooth and fast - a real joy to sew with. The Motor and Light work very well Features of the Singer Model 99K: * ¾ size cast iron head * All metal – substantial & Heavy Duty – weight: 22 lbs * Small size makes it very portable * Low shank presser foot – compatible with most commonly available Singer attachments * Uses standard 15 x 1 sewing machine needle * Class 66 drop-in modern-style bobbin * Straight stitch machine with wide variety of stitch length settings, plus reverse or back-tack feature * Nice Sewing light built onto back of machine Actual Stitch sample sewn using this machine When turned over to the in-house quality control and sewing expert (my wife) she immediately fell in love with the machine, (and she is quite picky when it comes to machines that she likes). After putting the machine through its paces, she declared "this thing is a little tank!" It is a stout performer, being suitable for either a young, beginning sewer, or a seasoned quilter/seamstress. It has been completely cleaned, adjusted and tested to ensure that it is working perfectly. The motor runs strong and smooth and the foot pedal works well and has good wiring. Detailed instructions for using this machine are found in the Singer 99K manual, available for free download HERE. The original Singer case is included, mainly to protect the machine during storage or moving. It's nothing to write home about, but it is solid and the wood appears to be fine. The original fabric is frayed in places, but it could be removed or recovered with new fabric, to make a pretty neat case, or leave the fabric off and put some wood stain and finish on to really dress it up. The latches do work fine, although I would carry the case from beneath, as the machine is pretty substantial and I wouldn’t necessarily trust the old case to hold its weight. The original padding from the metal handle is missing. Despite its smaller size, the Model 99K is a very tough & durable little machine that will continue to produce beautiful stitching results for generations to come, as long as it is given good care and periodic routine maintenance. The Model 99K will easily handle a wide variety of fabrics, from lace to denim and it will significantly outlast any of the inferior plastic machines being sold at discount stores today.
