Historical Significance
In 1921, Calegaro Silversmiths opened its doors in Del Santo Street in the centre of Padua, just a few meters away from the world famous St. Anthony's Basilica in Italy. It was originally a craftsman's studio with its own shop and the basic idea was that of spreading the culture of silver. No an easy task to be acheived by a shop which would later become the first producer of silver items in Padua . Its founder, Luigi Calegaro drew on the tradition of the Venetian school and coupling his passion and dedication to hard work made the business grow. As post-war Padua expanded, the historic centre proved to be too small for what it had become, and by 1969 moved to Praglia at the foot of the Euganean Hills.
Ever since the year of its foundation, Calegaro's production has carved for itself, together with its home items, an important position in its activity as a luxury contractor. For Tiffany, with an exclusive line of cutlery; for Bulgari, for whom they produced all the sets for a boutique chocolate house opened in Tokyo; for Mikimoto, with the particular set of children's items. The list is longer and it could continue with the vases and objects produced for Hermes or for Montenapoleone, with the designer collection Buccellati, or with the Pavillion and Palio line, bearing the name of Massimo Vignelli. Other collaborative work with the elite includes Riva, Fiat, Bugatti and Rolex.
