Vintage Original from many, many years ago, Southern Railway Railroad Company Passenger Train Dining Car BUFFALO CHINA PEACH BLOSSOM TOP LOGO PATTERN DINNER PLATE. Measures approx. 9" diameter. Base - white. Stripes orange/blue. Logo - brown filed with orange SR and remainder of lettering in white. Logo at top center "SR w/ THE SOUTHERN SERVES THE SOUTH". Backstamped: "Buffalo China logo". This pattern dates to the 1920's. This is listed online when you can find it as well as railroadiana collectors books at premium prices. Design and logo very clear and sharp w/ no blurring. Good condition w/ some utensil marks and there is a hairline crack running from edge toward center at approx. 7 o'clock position on front and back. (See pics 6 and 7 for specific details.) When I ran my finger over it, it felt smooth on both front and back. The Southern Railway (reporting mark SOU ) was a US class 1 railroad. It was the product of nearly 150 predecessor lines that were combined, reorganized and recombined beginning in the 1830s, formally becoming the Southern Railway in 1894. It was placed under control of the Norfolk Southern Corp., along with the Norfolk and Western Railway (N&W), in 1982, and was renamed Norfolk Southern Railway in 1990. (The N&W continued to exist as a subsidiary until 1997.)
