Edge Brand was another of Solingen's premium brand makers. Edge Mark and Edge Brand are very similar in both quality and design and both brands were owned by Gutmann Cutlery. The Edge Brand knives are earlier than the Edge Mark versions, but I'm not sure why Gutmann changed the name. Their knives are always of outstanding quality, blending highly skilled craftsmanship with the very best materials. These Original Bowie Knife patterns were introduced in the early 1950's and quickly became very popular. They were made by many different makers over the years, with many of the makers being Solingen-based firms, but other firms in other countries made them as well. This example has seen light use and remains in excellent condition. The thick, carbon steel blade is free of any significant corrosion or pitting, but has some carbon discoloration. The edge is free of any nicks or chips and is very sharp. The spine has a few light dings w it looks as though it was used to tap something. The guard is a standard relaxed "S" design in brass and is completely tight. The thick stag handles are gorgeous and completely tight with no cracks or chips. They have experienced just a bit of shrinkage as shown. T is no sheath with this knife. The blade is 6-1/8" and the knife measures 10-1/8" in overall length.
