The Stanley 101 1/2 bullnose block plane was manufactured by the Stanley Rule and Level Company from 1818 to 1929 and is considered one of the rarest Stanley tools. Rarer than the infamous number one. Interestingly, the majority of these planes have been found in England. The 101 1/2 was never shown in any Stanley catalog. However, it was offered in several editions of the Hammacher Schlemmer & Co., NY catalogs and was shown in the English 1881 catalog of Churchill & Co.This example which came from England, has the characteristics of the earliest version (the cap screw is domed with a funnel shaped undersurface). It was obviously modified by its owner many years ago with the placement of a very graceful handle.I would not be selling this plane if I did not have to. It won't last long! Please see all pics.
