This is a wonderful piece. It is a German nutcracker depicting a doctor and it has an incredible look. I brought it to a German friend of mine who helped me with translating everything written on it as everything written on it is all in German from words on the the syringe that is attatched to the hat to the words on the doctor's apron to the paper label on the bottom of the square base. First of all, this nutcracker is a doctor who makes house calls. He is wearing a long fluted black hat and gold colored rimmed glasses. In his hand, he holds an instrument. He has black hair and hair on his chin as well. His eyes, eyebrows, mustache, blue uniform and gold collar and teeth are all hand painted. His nose, body, arms, legs, the instrument in his hand, and the based are hand carved wood. On the syringe is written, "Geldspritze" which means "money syringe". On his apron is written, "Ich bin der" , "Doktor Eisenbarth", "kurier die Leut" , " -auf meine- " , " Art " , "1663-1727" which translates into: " I am led the Doctor Eisenbarth courier that -on my- types! " which basically means that he is the lead(or head) doctor that makes house calls which is truly unheard of in our world today!! On the bottom of the base is the original red and white paper label on which is written , "Steinbach" , "Volskunst aus homenhameln" , "Holzgalanterie" read more
