Up for your scintillating pleasure is a fabulous Vintage 1920s Art Deco TLM Sterling Silver Mariposa Butterfly Wing Pendent with Filigree and Chain Necklace. This wonderful piece of jewelry is by Thomas L. Mott of England. The scene is of a tranquil red sailed boat cruising the coast in a paradise scene with a palm tree to the fore and a mountain in the distance. The picture is reverse painted under the clear glass cover, most often merely a black silhouette but sometimes, with TLM and Rio made items, colored paint is used. The glass is set into a sterling silver small rectangle shaped pendent marked as TLM Sterling England - measuring 7/8" inch long x 1/2" wide, each filigree is 3/4" long and the total length is 18". A delicate fine example - nice, bright vibrant colours to the wing, No fading or discoloration. The TLM pieces are now becoming highly sought after and collected. Thomas Mott (TLM) company was founded in 1875 and popularized his beautiful reverse painted butterfly wing jewelry when they exhibited at the British Empire Exhibition of 1924. His company was the largest producer of butterfly wing jewelry in the 1920's/1930's. Becoming a favourite accessory of the Art Deco period. TLM acquired the Henry W. King Co. in 1925 and Owen Brothers Co. in 1933 and became the largest producer of butterfly wing jewelry of the era.
