From a recent estate , you are bidding on a vintage piece of railroadiana!!! Back in the 1800's, about the time of the civil war, trains used kerosene lamps as headlights. This piece looks to be the interior of one of those Train Headlights. It measures 6 1/8" deep by 12 1/4" long, by 17" to the top of the chimney. Reflector measures 12 1/2" in diameter and is about 4" deep. Chimney is made of very thin frosted glass and it's remarkable it has survived! It measures 9 3/4" tall and is 2 7/8" in diameter. I can't guarantee it to be original, but it was on the lamp when it was found. Light has no markings that I can see, and the only clue as to it's origin may be the fact that it was purchased in the small mining town of Georgetown Colorado. Perhaps it came from one of the trains used on the Georgetown Loop Narrow Gauge Railroad built in the 1870's! is a link to information. /about_us/history.shtml I would be happt to email additional pictures if necessary. Please refer to the pictures for details. Feel free to email with any questions you may have at Bidder to prepay including shipping and insurance. A MONEY ORDER OR CASHEIRS CHECK IS PREFERRED, TO BE DUE WITHIN 7 DAYS OF AUCTION END. SORRY, BUT PAYPAL IS NOT AN OPTION
