Up for auction is a VINTAGE UNDERWOOD UNIVERSAL PORTABLE TYPEWRITER in BEAUTIFUL CONDITION. The “CRINKLE” BLACK PAINT is excellent, nearly all intact, and displays beautifully. The UNDERWOOD UNIVERSAL logo above the platen is clear and very readable. The typewriter also works well and types very nicely. See more information about this below. It is Serial Number F777181, manufactured in 1934.Overall, this typewriter is really a WONDERFUL SHOWPIECE. The textured black finish is in excellent condition and QUITE IMPRESSIVE. The are a few small areas where the textured finish has worn off due to age and use, but the underlying black paint is still there, leaving a completely black overall appearance. The chrome or nickel plated pieces show just minor signs of age. Photos were taken from many angles to show the excellent overall condition of this typewriter.Mechanically the typewriter is also in great overall condition. Everything works, the type bars move up and down freely, the carriage moves smoothly and easily, nothing sticks. The small rubber rollers on the paper bail (holding the paper against the platen) are aged and slightly cracked, but they are still round and do their job effectively.
