This auction is for the tray of dummy pens on the right side of the gallery picture. This remarkable vintage Waterman vendor-display tray contains 12 dummy pens of different sizes and types. The pens all mimic actual Waterman pens, red hard rubber and black rubber, and were used in windows and cases to avoid damage from sun exposure or theft. Every pen has a paper band with some description and its price. Prices range from the smallest black pens (4 inches) at $2.75 to the red mottled hard rubber pen at $7.00. The RHR pens (5.5 inches) are $4.00 each. Obviously, these are old displays. Except for two in this tray, the pens are wired firmly to the trays. The loose pens have no nibs and have holes drilled in the back; the attached pens can not be examined without undoing the display, but are assumed to be similar. Occasionally collectors find a "dummy" pen, but they are considerably rarer than the actual working instruments, and often considerably more expensive. Up for auction is a whole tray of 12 of these Waterman display pens. I believe these pens are made of wood; they don't smell when rubbed. but I am not positive of their composition. The wooden tray itself is in excellent condition. Shipping costs are actual, with no handling charges. Insurance, based on the final selling cost, is required.
