The item for sale is a beautiful, restored Vintage Western Electric Model 50AL Dial Candlestick telephone, with a matching 534 WE Subset. Western Electric produced phones for and was a subsidiary of AT&T. The 50AL's were manufactured from about 1919 to the late 20's. This telphone has its original 2AE dial, with this clearly stamped into the dial fingerstop (doesn't show up well in the picture). Is also has its beautiful and original 132E porcelain number plate, complete with the dark red letters J, M, R and W opposite the numbers 5, 6, 7 and 9. As I recall this type of dial was used in party line operation. We of course normally repaint these phones and replace the external cords for the receiver, phone to subset and subset to wall with the original type cloth insulated wiring, and the felt cover on the bottom. The internal wiring was in good shape on this phone so we left it in place. The somewhat tattered WE 595 label with 1914 patent date is in place on the cord. The 2AE dial had some rust on the body which was removed, and pitted areas filled. This obliterated some of the patent dates on the outside of the dial body. This phone has its orginal WE 323 transmitter. The receiver is also WE and original - the type with patent dayes from 1900- 1913 on the back and "Property of American Telephone & Telegraph" stamped on the end cap. read more
