USED VINTAGE TELEPHONE. This is the classic Bell System Western Electric 302 type telephone, designed by famous industrial designer HENRY Dreyfuss in 1936, that was seen in so many "noir" films of the thirties, forties and fifties. While these telephones are certainly not rare, what IS hard to find is one in excellent, lightly used, original, "as removed from service" WORKING condition. This telephone that I am auctioning here, is all of these things and certainly a rare find. The thermoplastic housing and handset parts were manufactured in 1947*, the metal base unit (with ringer, coil and condenser) is dated 1950, and it appears the cords were replaced "in the field" in 1958 (the cords, like all Bell System equipment, are stamped with a date code). The dial's porcelain number plate is almost perfect (minor chip by the letter "S" - not really noticeable unless you look real close), no fading to the red numbers and it has the coveted "Z" above the word "operator". The phone even has the original number card. (Please see the pictures). This phone works great -- dials out, rings, you can hear and be heard. The phone has not been sanded or repainted. No chips or cracks. The cords are the originals, not reproductions. As an added bonus, I have included a "retrofit" plug, so that you can plug this phone into your "landline" at home. read more
