Vintage Wm Rogers & Son Heirloom Silverware
Offered for your consideration, just in time for your holiday table, is this this lovely vintage set of Wm. Rogers & Son silver place settings 51 piece service for 8. This silver was acquired at an estate auction w I was told it was a wedding present dating back to the 1940's. * The silverware is marked "Wm. Rogers and Son IS" which is the mark that was used by the International Silver Company as early as 1913. This silverware set is in very good, gently used condition. It could use some polishing, it has been in storage for a long time, t is a little tarnish, but no pitting. The knives have stainless steel blades. The pieces are solid and easy to hold. The handsom pattern on this silver is timeless, and elegant with a beautiful graduated gardenia and leaf design that is engulfed in a scalloped wrap. The Gardenia pattern dates from 1941, according to "Silverplated Flatware"Revised 4th Edition by Tere Hagan, page 159, and would be awonderful investment for yourself or as a gift to someone very special. This is the ultimate in wedding or anniversary gifts. The sparkle of this silver will create an elegant atmosp for any dining occasion. THE LOOK OF FINE JEWELRY ON YOUR DINING TABLE The service includes: * 8 knives 8 1/2" long * 8 dinner forks 7 1/2" long * 8 salad/desert forks 6 1/2" long * 8 soup spoons 7 1/4 " long * 17 cocktail spoons 6" long * 2 large serving spoon 8 1/4" long Included with this beautiful silverware is a velvet lined wood box to store and protect this treasure. The box is not in great condition, t are scratches and nicks, which probably could be polished, but the inside of the box is in good condition and it does help to protect this beautiful silver. The box measures 17" X 11" X 4". * Wm. Rogers (William Rogers), born in 1820, was a master American silversmith and a pioneer in the silver plate industry. It can be confusing to identify silver marked Wm. Rogers because his prestigious name was appropriated by many companies both in his lifetime and for generations after.
