Vintage Wood 3 Leg Standing Firkin Magazine Rack Sewing Knit Basket Yarn BucketThis is an antique Firkin bucket. "Firkin" is slang to refer to 1/4 of a barrel. The meaning evolved during colonial times to mean a small wooden bucket with a handle that was used to store dry goods, butter, lard, soap, sugar and even nails. This is a wonderful example of early American craftsmanship. The handle is in excellent condition and is held on by wood knobs & brass screws. The bucket is 9 1/2" tall and measures 12" across the top of the bucket. The wood staves are good and tight, bottom is solid as well. There is hardware secured to the bottom that allows the legs to be screwed in. With the legs attached the piece is 17 1/2" tall to top of the bucket, 24 1/2" tall with handle up. With the legs on these have commonly been used as sewing/knitting/crocheting baskets. The buckets have also been used as planters. Please examine the pictures to assure yourself of condition.Weight: 4 lbs 7 oz
