This truly handsome vintage Teapot, handcrafted in fine bone china by a North Staffordshire potter in England, was produced between the years of 1939 and 1945. The Teapot was, in fact, manufactured by the courageous British women who replaced the men in local factories while those men defended their country. This noble spirit of the Allied cause is captured in the words "For England and Democracy" which appear on the lid. The Teapot is a veritable history lesson in itself. In the final years of World War II, the United States launched many convoys of ships carrying heavy munitions cargos to England. Once off-loaded, these vessels required substantial ballast for their return journeys across the Atlantic, and this ballast was typically furnished in the form of huge crates packed with British pottery. Return convoys were protected by ships in Her Majesty's Royal Navy, which is the reason this very Teapot's base reads, "Escorted to U.S.A. by Royal Navy." The Teapot, with a 3-cup capacity, boasts a moriage-styled enamel motif which is raised pleasingly to the touch. The Teapot measures 7-1/2-inches across from handle to spout and stands 5-inches tall.
