VINTAGE WWII 502nd PIR 101st AIRBORNE DIV. M1 HELMET with chinstrap & net. The 502nd P.I.R. was a division of the famous 101st paratroopers know as the "Screaming Eagles". They painted a heart symbol on each side of their helmets for quick recognition because paratroopers were often scattered all over the countryside and units had to regroup as quickly as possible. The 502nd made its first combat jump into Normandy, France, June 6, 1944 (D-Day). The 502nd continued to fight in France until mid July, when it was withdrawn back to England. On Sept. 17, 1944 the 502nd made its second combat jump, into Holland, & fought t until late November 1944. Withdrawn to Rheims, France, the 502nd went into combat next by truck, to Bastogne. T they made their famous heroic stand surrounded by a vastly larger German Army. The Battle of the Bulge, fought in the coldest European winter of the 20th Century! Then in the Spring of 1945 they captured The Eagle's Nest, Hitler's home in the Alps. The Helmet has no cracks, dings, or damage. Overall in very good condition and an A+ for any serious collector.
