These military-style prismatic binoculars by Carl Zeiss of Jena , Germany , appear to date prior to WWII. They may have been used by German military or naval forces during the war. Power is 7x50, with individual-focus eyepieces, sharp and clear optics, and original leather neck strap and carrying case. Markings include CARL ZEISS / JENA on the left prism housing, and BINOCTAR / 1338109 / 7x50 on the right. The lower cap of the frame hinge is stamped GERMANY . No other visible markings. The brown-leather case is lined with what looks like textured black leattte, and is marked on its front lip CARL ZEISS / JENA . Overall height of the binoculars is approx. 7 inches, and case height is approx. 7 ¾ inches. Condition: The original finish on these binoculars is excellent, showing little age and only very light wear. The only paint losses are to a few sharp edges (see photos). Optics are equally excellent, very clear, and showing only a few small dark spots near the lens edges that do not affect vision. Otherwise, the lenses look perfect, without fogging, spiderwebbing, debris, or damage. Eyepiece operation and focusing are smooth and precise. The leather case is original and very sound and sturdy. Only remnants of the shoulder strap now survive. The stitching, cover hinge, and closing tab are intact and in fine shape. Overall, these read more
