ITEM DESCRIPTION
Vintage YOUNG & HINKLE "Windjammer" DESK & CHAIR

This is a very attractive oak arts & crafts style desk with a matching chair. It has three drawers on the left and a single drawer above the kneehole. The drawers are lined with the type of faux newspaper that you usually see in the very high end Hitchcock furniture. This faux newspaper is a permanent lining. It has a faux burnished leather top, which matches the seat in the chair. The wood has a purposefully distressed look, that is characteristic of this line by this maker. The wood has a beautiful patina which comes from a few decades of loving care. This desk was made by Young & Hinkle of North Carolina (it's signed inside the top drawer) and is part of their Windjammer line. This line of Young & Hinkle furniture was made very popular in the 1980s by the fact that this is the furniture that was featured in the set of "E.T., the Extraterrestrial".

Young & Hinkle was a quality North Carolina furniture maker that made solid wood furniture and specialized in furniture for children's rooms. They are now part of Lexington furniture.

Please any of the photos to examine item in detail.

Age (circa) c1980 Dimensions The desk measures 44" wide x 18" deep x 30" high. The chair is 18" x 18" x 34" high to the top of the back and the seat is 18" high Condition Good estate condition. The desk is in very good condition and sturdy. There are only the most minor character marks and signs of use. The drawer interiors are 99% clean (there are a couple of small pen marks inside the top drawer). Note that the wood is purposefully distressed - those lines you see are not scratches. The chair is in good condition but would benefit from a little spot joint gluing. All our items are used or antique and exhibit the normal amount of wear and tear that is commensurate with their age and usage.
