When the lira was replaced by the euro, the Ultima Lira (last lira) was created and presented to the great state institutions during a ceremony marking the passage. The lira was the official currency of Italy beginning with the Kingdom of Italy (Regno d’Italia) in 1861 until 2002. The term originates from the value of a pound weight (Latin: libra) of high purity silver.“Visconti's limited edition of 975 pieces is a black Lucite cap and end section with an embossed, carved, and engraved on a metallic palladium plated base over a transparent barrel. Italian Lira symbols are engraved by renowned coin creator Giorgio Buzzetti”. The name of Luigi Einaudi is also on the barrel and was the first democratic elected president of Italy.“The edition is finished with a gold lira coin set into the cap head.”The limited edition number is located at the end of the barrel.The pen is new but was placed in a display case. The original refill had dried out and has been replaced with a Schmidt 5888 refill.All paperwork and case are included.
