A bit of history: The Voigtlander Prominent is a rangefinder system camera, that was designed by the venerable Voigtlander company to compete with the Leica and Contax rangefinders. It had the quality and the system to back it up, but the Synchro Compur leaf shutter limited the range of possible lenses, especially the wide angle was restricted to a single 35mm. It had the quality, it had great optics, it had the looks, but it never caught on with the professionals. The Prominent then became the choice of discerning amateurs and hence was not built in huge numbers. The Prominent was launched in 1950 and discontinued as the Prominent II in 1961. This camera is an intermediate model that has the eyepiece of the mkIII Prominent, which has a frame line finder, and the mkII which has a more simple finder. Please see picture. This specific model is quite rare. Something for the dedicated Prominent collector. What do you get: Simply a stunning looking camera, that works well.
