DON'T FORGET TO CHECK OUT MY OTHER BOOK -MOST RARE ANTIQUES Johanson Rare Books in Baltimore has this 1816 set for $650 - earlier editions selling as high as $1,5002 Volumes [text and plates complete] of Bell's Operative Surgery. System of Operative Surgery founded on the Basis of Anatomy by Charles Bell. Printed by George Goodwin and Sons -1816- the 2nd American from the last London edition. Books are apx 8 3/4" x 5 1/2" and about 2" thick . 408 Pages for vol. 1 and vol. 2 is 523 [both have more pages for intro and plates as well]. Volume 1 has 8 full page plates printed on heavy stock paper and a few in text illustrations. Vol. 2 has a total of 16 full page, again, printed on heavy paper, and 1 fold-out [they counted as 2 plates] printed on lighter paper, for a total of 18 plates plus several in-text illustrations. The fold out has a small rip on bottom edge where it folds. These both are complete. Several more plates not shown! Lots of in text illustrations. Both retain their original red spine labels! Text and leather boards are all holding well, except- 7 of the [heavy paper] plates are starting to come out [bound together] in volume 1, about 1/2 way. They could be glued back in.
