LOT 902Seller's Estimate: USD 300 - 400Grouping of Eight (8) Volumes of Shakespeare's Complete Works and The Works of Hogarth. 1st grouping: SHAKESPEARE'S COMPLETE WORKS in 8 leatherbound volumes, Boston: Phillips, Sampson, & Company, 1854. Decorative engraved frontispieces and engraved illustrations of Shakespeare and characters from his plays, each preceding the play to which they belong. The first volume contains The Life of Shakspeare, New Facts, &c, Shakespeare's Will, and Preface of the Players; before each play is a Preliminary Remarks section. Marbled interior boards. Owner inscription "Geo B Guild 1861 Bought of Mr. H. Blackmore - Gallatin, Tenn. 1856 " on first page of each volume. 10 1/4" H x 7" W. 2nd item: THE WORKS OF HOGARTH, London: J. Dicks, 313, Strand, c. 1880's; leatherbound, 124 pages with 62 illustrations including engraved illustration of "The Painter and His Pug" painting by William Hogarth on title page. Gilt image of same painting featured on front cover. Owner inscription "E. H. Nichols, M. D. - Presented to him by (illegible script) " back of front cover. 13" H x 10" W. (Higher-resolution photos are available at www.caseantiques.com)Condition Report:1st grouping: Volumes in fragile condition, covers heavily worn, first few pages of most books becoming separated from binding, numerous foxing spots on first few pages and illustrations, foxing spots on edges of most pages. 2nd item: Book in fragile condition, spine almost gone, holes and foxing spots on title page, foxing spots on other pages, edges of pages worn.Payment:The buyer is responsible for paying the seller directly after winning the item. Details on accepted payment methods and where to send payment are provided in an invoice from the seller.Additional payment details from the seller:Payment for all winning bids must be settled by the end of the sale. Payment may be made by cash (In House Only), wire transfer, certified funds, credit card or approved check. We reserve the right to require payment by wire transfer or certified funds. Payments from outside the United States and Canada should be made by wire transfer. A convenience charge of 3% will be reflected in the final purchase price for the use of a credit card and credit cards will not be accepted for international transactions. Checks may take up to three weeks to clear and be verified. Buyers not known to us presenting a check must provide a "letter of guarantee" from a bank officer on original stationery to Case Antiques, Inc. This letter should state an exact amount of funds guaranteed and should be presented to the cashier at time of registration. An example "letter of guarantee" is available on our Website. Credit arrangements must be made by the Friday prior to the day of auction so bank statements or letters of guarantee can be verified. We reserve the right to not issue a bidder number or to withhold merchandise if appropriate credit has not been established. Case Antiques, Inc. reserves the right to hold all merchandise until receipt of funds is verified. A $30.00 service charge will be assessed when a check fails to clear the purchaser's bank. In addition to this returned check administrative fee, late payment fees may be assessed. We require cash, cashier's check or wire transfer to replace the returned check and any service fees.Shipping:The buyer is responsible for paying all shipping costs and arranging for shipping and delivery with the seller.Additional shipping details from the seller:Case Antiques, Inc. does not ship. All items for this auction are located in Knoxville, TN. We provide names of carriers and shippers in advance at bidder/purchaser request and on our Website. Case Antiques, Inc. will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items. Items must be paid for in full before they will be shipped. Any shipping estimates given are only estimates and cannot be construed as the final shipping cost. All property should be removed from the premises at the sale conclusion unless prior arrangements have been made with Case Antiques, Inc. Purchased items not picked up or shipped within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $10.00 per day.
