Up for auction is a vintage American Beach Florida Negro Ocean Playground license plate topper. It is made of cast iron and had been used as an outside decoration. It has a rusty patina but is in solid condition. It measures 11 1/2" x 4 1/4" x 3/16". A great piece of Black Americana! American Beach is a historic beach community popular with African-American vacationers. It is located north of Jacksonville on Amelia Island . It was the largest and most popular, and was a community established by Abraham Lincoln Lewis , Florida's first black millionaire. In January 2001, American Beach is listed as a historic site by the National Register of Historic Places .
