This is a vintage / antique Japanese cigarette case. Black satin finish over silver color (sterling???) metal and gold and silver color overlay in the design. The gold push-in type latch has a marking which looks like 14K. Only the 4 is clearly visible, the 1 and K are somewhat worn. See picture 7. Inside the case is a maker's mark which has Japanese characters in a square box, topped with a rising sun. The cover features a Geisha and a seated man in conversation and the back side has four butterflies. This beautiful case measures 3 1/4" x 3 1/2" and is very slightly curved.
