Description: Vintage Framed Print "The Last Warrior" Signed/Hand Signed by Artist Julian Z. Gilbert Limited Colotype Print #164/300 Depicts Old Man Chief and titled "The Last Warrior" Comes with certificate of authenticity on back...Please see photo 8 for details Date: 1960-70's About the Artist: (From Wikipedia) Julian Zangwell Gilbert � (1937-2001) is an American 20th century artist of� realism (visual arts) . He is most noted for his work in classical Portraiture . History Gilbert was born in� London, England � on� August 13 ,� 1937 . He was the youngest of 3 children from a Jewish family. Following World War II, the Gilbert family emigrated to Canada, and in 1949 they moved to� Chicago, Illinois . Gilbert received his formal art training at the� American Academy of Art � where he first became a protégé of� William Mosby . Gilbert produced paintings and drawings throughout his carrer, often capturing the psychology of his subjects within his work. Compositions for Gilbert's paintings involved a process of fine, tight line drawings with a working of oil paints on top. He credits� Anthony van Dyck � as one of his primary influences. One of Gilbert's most noted works is the portrait of� Grace Talarico di Capace . The drawing of the� Baroness � was completed in 1992 and is rendered in hues of graphite and� sepia (color) . Along with being an artist, Gilbert was also a skilled art instructor. During the 1990's, he established his� Addison Gallery � in Chicago, within one of the properties owned by Grace Talarico di Capace. Gilbert worked from this location throughout the 90's, then experiencing a severe stroke in 1997, and finally passing a few years later in 2001. Julian Z. Gilbert is survived by his 4 children and his sister.� Condition: Print is in Good(+) Condition. Frame though does have damages...has slight stain on matting on left side and scratched frame, etc. Print appears to be framed un-centered as well.
