Vintage Westmoreland Green Glass Colonial Thumbprint #185 Electric Whale Oil Lamp.This is a vintage 1920’s reproduction lamp made by Westmoreland Glass Co. of Grapeville, PA and shown in their 1927 Catalogue. They called it a COLONIAL Pattern and numbered it No.185. It is shown in their catalogue as an electric lamp and was sold in crystal, roselin, amber, green & blue glass. It has a hexagonal base with six panels that have a series of three thumbprint circles of graduating sizes in a vertical row within faceted squares. This lamp is in excellent condition – no chips, cracks or damage of any kind. The electric socket is not included. The lamp measures 9 "” tall (to top of collar) with a 3 "” diameter font and 4” diameter base.They were sold and advertised as electrical lamps resembling/copying the whale oil lamps from the 1860's. They came with a lamp socket that screwed into the collar (without altering or damaging the glass).You will often come across authentic whale oil lamps that have been converted to electricity (these lamps can be restored back to their original use). The burner attachments for the old lamps were two round wick burners and burner caps. This lamp can also be used as an oil lamp by finding the right #1 or #2 prong burners that will fit the lamp.To verify if the glass parts are old, you look at the original read more
