W. L. Gilbert "Column Spring" Antique Shelf Clock Mechanism is stamped "WM. L. Gilbert Clock Co. Winsted, Conn., U.S.A. 5 ½ " Label inside clock says "Instructions for Setting the Clock Running." "Directions for Regulating the Clock." "WM. L._ ilbert Clock Co., W_nsted, Conn. Manufacturers of Eight Da_ and Thirty Hou_ Clocks" Clock runs and strikes but the mechanism needs cleaning. My father's notes on this clock say that it was purchased in Fulton, KS on 9-1-1974. He further states, "This clock is named the "Column Spring" and is illustrated in the William L. Gilbert Clock Co catalogue of 1875. It is a rosewood-cased clock with mottled yellow columns. It is an eight-day, time and strike brass movement. The small flue reverse painted glass in the lower panel of the door is original to this clock, as are the dial and the hands." Paint is flecked off of the columns, also flecked off in places on the dial and the door painting. See Pictures. Dimensions are approx. 15" x 10.25" x 4.25".
