Art Nouveau walking stick / cane with gold leaf handle chased with floral sprays and partridge wood. The crook handle is classic shape inspired by the canes used by shepherds. It is a practical shape as it can hang from your arm when needed. This shape was seldom found in the 18th and 19th Centuries. It became fashionable in the Art Nouveau period along with the curvilinear shapes characteristic of the time. Partridge wood, also known as pheasant wood, is a dark-colored and striated wood of a tropical palm, used for walking sticks, umbrella handles and fine cabinet work. The handle has the word OR engraved and a monogram. It is gold leaf with copper underneath. Note small metal tears on handle. The cane has a steel tip. Measurements: 35.75" long and 4" at widest point. (Item #221)Additional photos to examine this item in more detail are available upon request.
