For Sale is this Wonderfully Ornate Vintage English Brass Calling Bell!! This item was purchased at an estate sale in England 7 years ago while I was on vacation. The son of the person's estate gave us some background on this piece. Years ago gentlemen callers would ring this type of bell outside the door of the lady they were wishing to court to request a visit! How gallant! This is a Beautiful piece to display indoors or hanging outside as a door bell, or at the entrance gate to your garden!! It has a wonderful crisp clear tone! Measurments are as follows : 9" from top of backplate to bottom of bell. The Bell itself is 4 1/2" tall including the ring at the top of it, and 3" wide. The backplate is 7" tall and 3 1/4" wide. Pull chain is 14" long with a beautifully engraved pull handle at the bottom of the chain. The bell is secured with a screw to a swinging lever on the hanger. When the chain is pulled, the lever tilts, and the bell attached to the lever swings to ring it!! T are no cracks in this piece. A little brass polish will bring out the bright brass color and the details of the bell will be able to be seen even better! This georgous piece is adorned wit h fleur de lis designs along with symbolic animal pictures of a lion, pellican, ram, and a beautiful angel with wings.
