Per 's Museum, Walter Hyleck was born in Beloit, Wisconsin. Walter received his his B.A. in Art and Art History from the University of Minnesota, Duluth in 1965 and his M.F.A. from Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana in 1967. He has been the Louis Belknap Professor of Fine Art at Berea College, Berea, Kentucky, since 1967. He became the Chairman of the Art Department in 1984 and served as director of the ceramic apprenticeship program from 1971-1985. He has also served as a guest and resident artist at schools in the United States and abroad. His work in ceramics is both functional and non-functional in content.
