This is an incredibly rare copy of an original Wartime Log,as provided to a few POWs in WWII by the YMCA. The book has an inscription dated 1996 inside the front cover that says: “In memory of my beloved dad, who was my greatest friend & mentor in my life. Your beloved daughter, Cheryl.” The ownership page identifies the book’s original owner as: Lt. M. Mayne Umvoti Mounted Rifles Natal, South Africa Rather than use the book to keep a journal of his time as a POW, Lt. Mayne used it as a gallery for unit crests which were beautifully hand drawn and colored. There are 28 crests in the book, some of which were done on heavy paper and then glued into the book, and others of which were done on heavy pages that look like they were later bound into the book. One of the crests appears to have come loose from where it was mounted and is now in a pocket in the back of the book. The book also contains several pages with the names and addresses of some of his fellow POWs. The last page identifies the men on this page as Bad-Characters. The spine of the book is in poor condition, but the pages are not loose. Don’t miss what may be your only chance to add such a rare book to your collection. Very few of the POWs received these Wartime Logs, and even fewer have survived the years. Payment is expected within 7 days of auction end. Shipping read more
