It's a good time to take a break from traveling. He's home in Ireland enjoying his family. After more than 25 years of traveling the globe for Waterford most of the year, he certainly deserves to enjoy a change of pace. We're all hoping he will be able to resume having signings again in the future. The newest chapter in Waterford Crystal's history is that a new factory opened in Ireland in 6/10. It is right in the center of the city of Waterford. It will be producing VERY HIGH END pieces like trophies & very large designer pieces for now. I know at some point in the future they will be making more affordable pieces. I have no idea when that will be. Jim O'Leary - Waterford's Design Director is staying on. This is Jim's 51st year with Waterford , a great time for celebration. I have known Jim for quite awhile. He's truly a gentleman & a delight. He's one of the most generous, kind, caring & compassionate people I know; both with his time & his knowledge. While I've been a collector & student of Waterford crystal for many years, Jim has taught me so much more about it. Jim has graciously done private signings twice a year for me for several years now. Normally, he's signed smaller pieces like ornaments . In April 2010, he did a very large private signing for me. There were well over 100 items. From the biggest Designers Gallery pieces to the smallest ornaments , he took great joy in seeing some pieces he designed & other pieces long retired. I'm overwhelmed by his friendship, which I cherish. Over the next months, I'll be offering these pieces to you. They newest ones are not only signed by him , but they have the year "2010" on them too, to represent his 50 years at Waterford . I'm forever indebted to him for caring so much. I can easily see why he's known the world over as the "conscience of Waterford". It's my opinion that Waterford crystal pieces made of 33% lead crystal & blown glass ornaments from Eastern Europe will be at a premium from now on. 98% of all the Waterford I have to offer is 33% lead crystal from Ireland & the same amount of Holiday Heirloom ornaments are from Eastern Europe. This 2000 Waterford Millennium Footed Ice Bucket was handmade in Ireland, from the purest 33% lead crystal . It is acid etched with the Waterford name & hallmark. The green & gold sticker is attached. This Waterford piece was hand inspected an average of 4 times to spot any imperfections. No two pieces are exactly alike because they're hand made. Each piece of Waterford is a unique piece of art. This stunning Ice Bucket is BRAND NEW in its box . The light radiates and reflects beautifully through the meaningful deep cuts combined with clear crystal. What a magnificent statement this will make as a gift or for your own table ! This Ice Bucket is so exquisite , you might want to show it year round ; instead of just for holidays. It sold for $375.00 before being retired & sold out. This remarkable piece was sold out & retired the first & only year it was available. This masterpiece is for the keen & discerning collector. The artisans at Waterford wanted to make a special series of crystal items to mark the dawning of a new Millennium. This Ice Bucket is representative of the five universal toasts that have endured for tens of centuries. They are Happiness, Love, Health, Prosperity & Peace . In the same order, their symbols are a Bow Knot (picture 10 ), an eloquent heart (picture 11 ), the morning sun (picture 7 ), the sheaf of wheat (picture 8) & the dove in flight with an olive branch (picture 9 ).
