Up for auction is this 48 volume complete set of Sir Walter Scott's Waverley Novels: Thistle Edition. Published by Harper and Brothers, New York, 1900. Books are bound in forest green cloth with silver and white decorative cover and spine. Each volume has an illustrated frontispiece, and about 30-40 illustrations throughout each book.All volumes are in Good to Good+ condition. Ex-Library copies with library plate on ffep and rfep, as shown in photos. No stampings on edges. All are shelf worn to varying degrees, but nothing extreme. All have expected light to moderate rubbing on all boards, corners, spines and ends. Most spine ends are worn with some degree of chipping, as well as most corners. Many volumes have loose and/or bowed spines. Most hinges are tight, but a few are starting. Some degree of soiling to many leaf ends and quite a few boards. Volumes 13 and 40 have what appears to be white paint stain on spines, about and inch in size, as also seen in photos. A few scratched page ends. But all pages appear clean with no noticed markings, other than the library plates, and a previous owners small signature on every upper ffep. Overall, a very nice looking set that would be a nice addition to any home library. Books measure 7.5" x 5" x 1.5".
