Germany's Kaiser Wilhelm was very enthusiastic about the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. He saw it as a wonderful opportunity to showcase Germany across the Atlantic in America. He directed that an imposing State House should be erected for the fair, that a large German Village be built on the Midway, and that an impressive gun exhibit be shown. The Krupp Steel Works erected a large building on the shore of Lake Michigan. they housed a number of huge canons including the largest gun ever made. This gun was 87 feet long and weighed 124 tons.
