Splendid engraving / mezzotint printed in colours and hand-coloured from Johann Wilhelm Weinmann, c. 1740 "Cereus Minimus..." / Cereus - Cactus Details: For sale is fine original engraving by Weinmann, printed in colours and finished by hand. It comes out of Weinmann's famous botanical work „Phytanthoza Iconographia“ which was published in Regensburg (Germany) between 1737 and 1745. Johann Wilhelm Weinmann (1683-1741) was an influential pharmacist and botanist, and director of the longest established pharmacy in Regensburg. His "Phytanthoza Iconographia" is remarkable not only for the beauty and accuracy of its illustrations, but also for the successful use of color printing. Most of the plates were engraved with a recently developed process which combined engraving and mezzotint.
