Offered for auction is a Weller hanging basket from the "Souevo" art pottery line. Souevo was made around 1910 and according to "legend" was primarily sold to the local Indians who in turn sold "this Indian pottery" to unsuspecting tourists (probably from Ohio!). This was an excerpt from The Collector's Encyclopedia of Weller Pottery Vol.I, regarding the Suevo line. The interior of the piece has a glossy glaze (to waterproof it) and the holes used for hanging are in factory issued condition. The colors are the customary ones used on all of the Suevo pieces. Generally speaking, red clay base with black geometric Indian motifs and beige accent bands or background and black lines for definition... You don't see Souevo pieces often and rarely in such great condition. It's a hard to find Weller line. Having the perfect vintage southwest flair, it can be a compliment read more
