I am selling several quality knives this week, time permitting. I have done my best to show any problems with the knives in my pictures, and will do my best to describe the knives I am offering. Thanks for looking, and good luck with your bidding! This is an older, early version of the popular Western Bowie knife that became a classic. The knife has a carbon steel blade, brass angular S-shaped guard, and rosewood handles attached to the full tang with three small brass pins. It has been carried, used, and sharpened. The upper, "false" edge, aka swage, is also sharpened. It is stamped on three lines with "WESTERN/ BOWIE /U. S. A." The sheath is leather, the second version, with a brass ring and a leather hanger for the belt, similar in design to Finnish knife sheaths such as those made for the puukko and leuku knives. It allows the wearer to sit and have the knife swing forward and lay on the seat instead of being stiff and binding against the belt and pushing up. There is no keeper at the top of the sheath: previous owner used leather thong to hold knife in place, and added another thong at the bottom to hold the knife against the leg. The sheath is dry, with cracks in the leather, and the mouth of the sheath has slightly separated and has been pushed out a little. Like I said, it was carried and used - not especially well maintained, since the owner wasn't looking for a wall hanger or collector's piece, but a solid, rugged, dependable knife in case the chips were down and he needed something he could count on. Measures 9-1/4"from the tip to front of the guard, 14-1/2" overall. A very neat, older example of a fine knife that has proven itself over time. Don't let it get away! Contact me with any questions. Priority Mail can be insured but not Registered. If sent without insurance, only $64.66 can be recovered. Insurance can be purchased up to $5000. A Return Receipt can be added to this for the same $3.50 fee. Express Mail includes a tracking number from me to you, and includes insurance up to $100. You can also purchase more insurance for items valued over $100. If you choose not to have it shipped by Express Mail, you agree that you will be held solely responsible if your package does not arrive for any reason, or is damaged in transit by actions of the postal service. Packages can be held up at Customs, or confiscated, lost or stolen. For any item I sell over $9.99, I will send an invoice which includes Registered and Return Receipt fees or Insurance.
