Rare Westminster Bank Leather Gladstone type Safe Bagprobably late Victorian 19th century to early 20th century Edwardian with Chubb 2 key detector lock * the bag has a Gladstone metal frame opening to the top of the opening Gladstone frame is riveted a brass name plate: Normanton Road Derby Branch No. 48 The bag has the original: WESTMINSTER LIMITED BANK in gilt to the front To the upper front is located a brass escutcheon plate engraved CHUBB LONDON with the Chubb logo of a fish. The plate is brass riveted through the leather to the Gladstone frame. *The brass lock is a two key lock and I am advised that it is a scarce Chubb 2 key detector lock. A lock that would be almost impossible to pick and if tampered with would jam in the locked position. the bag is unopened and I have no keys. I have no way have telling if the bag has any contents. Presumably the bank branch would keep the keys. The leather is exceptional heavy quality with stitching in likewise excellent condition The only wear is some rubbing to the cosmetic leather covering to the the top gladstone metal frame overall approx size is: 7.5 inch high x 6 inch wide across front. the opened bag would be approx 3 inches at the base, but wider at the top opened frame at approx 4 inches Total weight approx. 500 gms a scarce item of interest to the Banking or Lock collector
