It seems as though we come across many more Hens on a Nest than we do Roosters!!!... But when we do find one of these handsome fellows... he's usually something quite special... and so it is with this "eye-catching" country gentleman!!!... This is an exciting... Westmoreland Glass Company marked... Rooster on a Nest. This "perky" fellow sets about 4 ¼ inches tall... 5 ½ inches long.... and 4 ¼ inches wide. Both the Rooster and the Nest appear to be in excellent condition. "HANG ON NOW"... and let me lead you through some of the exciting glass colors the glass makers have "drummed up" to make this handsome "brute" just a little more special!!!... Our Rooster is in that elusive... "Amberina" Glass... but that's by far not the end of the story!!!... They've also given Him a Milky White Glass Head!!!... Combining various glass colors into one finished product is a time consuming... hands on operation... requiring the glass workers to retrieve... in this case... the Opaque White Glass from one furnace... and placing a small amount into the up-turned mold. Meanwhile a second worker is gathering the Amberina Glass from a second furnace... which he then in turn places just the right amount into the mold to complete the operation. It might be a labor intensive... time consuming operation... but look at the stunning results!!!... Our Rooster carries the later Westmoreland Glass Company mark... the one w the name "Westmoreland" is spelled out in a circle around a large "W". I believe this was the last mark the company used just prior to their closing in about 1983. And... if I remember correctly... these Roosters were a part of the company's "Animal Novelties" series... that they first introduce in the very early 1900's. They were produced in both matching and mixed colors. This is the "split tail" type Rooster... which is much nicer and harder to come by than the "flat tail" style. It comes from a much more intricate "mold"... a bit harder to make... and always commands a better price. But let's not stop t!!!... This "good lookin' guy" is setting on Nest... in another glass color that just defies reasoning!!!... It's a "delicious" looking... Milk Chocolate Brown!!!... This is the "Thin Ribbed" style Nest... and it carries the same Westmoreland mark as the Rooster... both on the inside bottom... as well as the underside bottom. I might also mention that this Chocolate Brown Glass Nest is a very complementary color for this Amberina and White Rooster. It makes him... the center of the attraction... as he should be!!!... What ever you do... don't let this handsome fellow slip through your fingers!!!... We'd hate to see all the Hens in your collection leave home to meet up with this guy... in someone else's "chicken coop"!!!... Several months ago a nice collection of Hens... Roosters ... Cats... Horses... Ducks... Cows... Lions... and more... came into our shop for sale. Some of these were in colors... and color combinations... that I've not seen before.
