Up For Auction is this American beauty that has a hint of restoration in progress. Seems someone has restored this from its original guise by stripping off the original pearl skin, and painting the shell gloss black. Not to bad looking as you can see but could have been done with a little more perfection. T seems to be a remnant of the old skin still left on under the paint as you can see on picture 7, and much paint on the badge. Possibly the original pearl was black avalon and the restorer could not get it off fully and they decided to paint it black to hide the rest. If I were to refinish this it would be with a new black avalon skin to make it period neat. The badge cleans up nice with a tooth pick. As you can see the mount bracket finish is peeling and rust has settled in. No problem for a collector like yourself. The shell is nice though and the chrome looks 90% great. Not bad for some thing over 60 years old. Hey that's me too !!! I just let my imagination run wild when I think of whomight have thumped this instrument. The badge puts this baby around 1948 to 1952. Maybe a young Buddy Rich learned on this one. Who knows but it would make a great addition to your collection. is an interesting story about this drum. I lifted the Evans Hydraulic off to get some pictures of the wood shell and I was overcome by this sweet aroma. read more
