WHALE TOOTH FAUX IVORY SCRIMSHAW BONE CARVING KING GEORGE III 20TH NOV. 1759 QUIBERON BAY THE ROYAL GEORGE 3 MASTS. This is an excellent gift for the person who has everything. These pieces date back to the time when Great Britain was one of the most powerful countries of the world and the sun never set on the British Empire. Her Majesty's Ship The Royal George sailing in full canvas into Quiberon Bay on the 20th Nov. 1759. with King George III, a leader in making this so. When I look at this piece it is hard to differentiate from the real thing, it is so well done and at a reasonable price that everyone can afford. This museum quality scrimshaw reproduction would be a great inexpensive addition to anyone's collection. It is extremely well done. One side is intricately etched with King George III and the other side with the ship The Royal George. See photos. It measures 5 1/2 inches high, 1 3/4 inches wide and weighs 13 oz. Scrimshaw came into being by boredom of the deck hands on a whaling vessel. They took up carving on a whales tooth which were readily available and the scenes were mostly nautical.
