This is an old Ukelele Banjo complete with its original case and the makers badge attached to the fronf face of the peg head between the pegs. The badge indicates the model as "The Whirl", and says Windsor, Birmingham and "REGD. 450220". Does this suggest having been made 1906 - 1910 or thereabouts? It has 16 (nickel plated brass?) frets,a scale lenght of 13" and an homemade bridge - fashioned from a black piano key - and a bone saddle from a beef bone. It's 22" in length, an 8" diameter vellum a 9 1/2" body and a nut width of 1 1/4" It has four new nylon strings and the vellum, slightly marked in places, is fully intact. It has had two knocks, one on the side of the neck about half way along and one on the body just above where the strings would be plucked/strummed which might be seen in the photos. However, the instrument is in pretty good order. The case is lined and internally in good order, but externally the metal fixings are slightly rusty, seen in the photos, and shows signs of its age. But still usable.
