This is a nice lot of two antique solid sterling silver spoons, made by the famous maker, Whiting, a company that made high-quality flatware, and that was later acquired by Gorham. They are in the architectural facade-like Keystone pattern, dated 1888 in the books, but the patent marks are much earlier. These spoons look quite old to me. Left to right, first photo: 1. About 6" long with an elongated bowl with a flanged edge near the handle. Egg spoon, maybe? Engraved "C" on the back of the handle, which looks the same as the front. Stamped "Sterling", "Pat'd Sept. 7, 1869" and also stamped with the retailer's name, "N. Matson & Co.". Light overall scratching and wear and it does look like the bowl was buffed at some time. 2. About 5-5/8" long. Engraved "BJW" on the front of the handle. Shows at lot of wear overall, but still okay. Stamped "Pat. 1869 Sterling" with the old lion holding a W hallmark for Whiting. They weigh a total of about 39.2 grams or 1.38 ounces of sterling silver on my digital point scale, so I am starting these at below melt value. PLEASE EMAIL ANY QUESTIONS! RETURN POLICY: read more
