Wide Golden Helmet Motorbike Speedway Racing Flag Pin This is a beautiful enamel and metal pin badge advertising the 'Golden Helmet' (Zlata Prilba in Czech) big race in Pardubice, in former Czechoslovakia. The Golden Helmet was first held in 1929 the race took its name from the fact that the 'cup' was in fact a large golden speedway helmet that the victor wears on the podium.There have been breaks in the race calendar, particularly over World War 2 and also after 1951 when the communists took control of the country. Each year lists the eventual winner of which there have been many nationalities, the Germans dominated the 1930's, Czechoslovakia and Russia in the 1960's and the Danish in the 1970's. These badges are all from former Czechoslovakia and are very hard to come by here, many of the pins I have listed are unique to me and not ones I have come across before in 6 years of collecting. They often have a number on the pin that denotes the meeting number. So a 10 on the pin represents the 10th meeting held in 1947.Early badges (Early 1960s and before) are usually just metal, the later 1960's pins tend to be metal with a baked enamel insert and the pins from the later 1970's and beyond tend to be similar to 1960's manufacting styles only with the addition of a clear varnish that was read more
