WILLIAM BRAMWELL, REVIVALIST Born in Elswick, Lancashire to wealthy Christian parents William Bramwell, became an outstanding evangelistic preacher ministering in a number of Wesleyan circuits. While apprenticed to a currier his passion for the truth led him to serious Bible study, resulting in his conviction and conversion. Disappointed with the lack of fellowship amongst the Anglicans and deeply impressed by reading John Wesley’s works, he decided to join the unpopular ‘Wesleyan devils.’ Thereafter he devoted himself to the service of Christ and preached with extraordinary power for the rest of his life. He also exercised the gift of ‘a word of knowledge’ sometimes revealing, with amazing accuracy, the private details of those to whom he ministered.
