This is a Wilson "Original" R90 Sand Iron (sand wedge). It is the standard 55 degrees loft, 35 1/2 inches long, and 11 degrees of bounce. The head is made of non glare stainless steel, which I have found ideal for a sand wedge, as it makes the head and grooves last about 20 years or so, as about 5 years on a chrome plated wedge. It has the original famous dynamic tapered steel shaft, coated with pyrotene, a finish that reminds me of an epoxy paint. The brown finish protects and rustproofs the shaft, eliminates distracting glare in the sand trap, and gives a more solid feel at impact, great for delicate shots around the green. The grip is a Golfsmith perferated wrap standard sized grip with only a round or two of use on it. The club is in very good shape, as it obviously was not used much from a good player who rarely got into the sand. I remember this model as "the" sand wedge to use around the pro circuits and good golfers in the 60's and 70's. And with good reason, as it was the improved version of Wilson and Gene Sarazen's sand wedge designs over the years. Players use to use a concave faced sand iron before the USGA banned them in 1931. So Gene Sarazen got a bunch of wedges from his sponsoring company, Wilson, and tinkered with weld soldering the sole to make it work better to glide through the sand better on explosion shots, read more
