Please See the discussion beneath this auction Description, thank you . This auction is for the WPP (Women's Physique Publication ) #86, March 1983. This was published as a subscription only magazine by Bill Jentz from 1976 through 1993. They range from four pages for the first several issues through over 100 glossy pages in the later ones. The earliest issues feature photos that were sent in by subscribers, of naturally muscular women who were the founders of women's bodybuilding as a sport. As the issues grew in size they grew in scope, eventually covering contests worldwide. This one is 40 pages and photo filled. Among the women featured are- Sue Ann McKean (cover) , Suzie Andrews, Brooke Ellen Tuhey , Donna Kovak, Elaine Wright , Julie mcNew, Cammie Lusko , Denise Clark and many more in hundreds of pictures and text! See the accompanying pictures from the issue's front and back covers for the merest taste. This issue also covers the 1983 San Jose Championships, 1982 Illinois Women's Bodybuilding Championships, 1982 Ms Central States, 1982 Ms Gold Coast and others, with many pictures of the winners and of other contests and contestants. Please note there is a small, clear amber stain on the outer edge of the back page and a few associated pages. The stain does not block or blur any of the photos or text. May be coffee. Tea. This is another extremely rare and hard to find piece of Women's Physique and Bodybuilding history. Quoting Bill: "Finding women with great arms or legs is difficult...." W.A.S.P. - the Women & Strength Periodical began publication in December of 1976 as a subscription-only periodical. Over the next fifteen years, concluding with issue #174 in 1991, this was THE publication that chronicled the nascent Women's Bodybuilding and Physique sport from its earliest beginnings to its ultimate extreme today. Initially the women featured just happened to be muscular in one part of their body (biceps, calves, abs, etc). As the magazine grew it became the venue for more athletic, well muscled women and, eventually featured amateur and professional body builders.In the very earliest days of Women's Bodybuilding, in December, 1976, Bill Jentz began publication of his subscription only - " Women and Strength Periodical " - WASP . In July of 1980, with issue #51 (featuring a young and beautiful Shelley Gruwell) he changed the name to " The Women's Strength and Physique Publication " - WSP . The final issue of WSP in January 1983, #84, featured Gladys Portuguese. In February of that year issue #85, featuring Leslie Barber, marked the third name for this periodical - " Women's Physique Publication " - WPP . Jentz continued publishing into 1991, issue #174 with the final page devoted to Kay Baxter. WASP, WSP & WPP are the seminal publications of Women's Bodybuilding. Offering an incredibly complete inside look at the first fifteen years of the sport. Beginning with totally natural women just interested in building and showing-off their biceps to today's extremely muscled Ms Olympia competitors. You can see such stars of the sport as Kay Baxter, Shelley Gruwell, Carla Dunlap and even Corey Everson and Julia Bergman (the list just goes on and on) and watch the changes in their bodies as they get deeper and deeper into the competition. Going from the early, totally natural look to the massively muscled look of today. Or at least through 1991. Over the next few months I will be auctioning over 100 of these extraordinary magazines.
