This is a fabulous and original mantel clock from the early french Art Nouveau period, made around 1890. The clockcase is made of dark-red colored marble. Above the clockcase are two young women standing with roses in their hands. Both figurines are made of painted spelter and were made by the famous sculptors L. & F. Moreau. The enamaled dial is lovely decorated with painted flowers. The clock comes with a pair of heavy garnitures in vase shape. The clock has been serviced, the entire movement was cleaned by a professional clockmaker. The clock is in full working order, ever piece is still original and replaced. The clock is in excellent, used condition and shows only light signs of use. It has only one small chip on the back of the clockcase. Also one arm of one of the figurines was glued, but this is not eye-catching at all (see picture below). Some information about the work of the L. & F. Moreau brothers, I found in the ebay guides: L&F Moreau were two brothers who were part of the Moreau dynasty of sculptors from Dijon France in the 19th century. L&F Moreau were perhaps best known for creating highly ornate clocks and garniture sets in both bronze and spelter. The L stands for L ouis Auguste (1855-1919), known for bronzes and metal sculptures. The F stands for Hippolyte F rancois (1857-1930), a painter and sculptor. Both of read more
